Watch Me Think is a global company born out of
a small packet of crinkle cut, deep fried potatoes

In 2010, 2 gentlemen found themselves in a bar wanting to share a packet of cheese & onion flavoured crinkle cuts. One of the gents opened the foil pack along its spine so they could both tuck in.

The other commented how much of a pain this was.

And how sometimes it could go badly wrong.

"How good would it be if we could video this?" he asked.

Going on to say how manufacturers could watch the film and be inspired to make special shareable packaging for use at such occasions.

These 2 potato-bonded gentlemen are:

John Hoctor, Chief Thinker

With a background in sales and marketing, John has spent the last 15 years in senior management roles in the research industry.

Originally from the UK (and still a Peterborough United Fan) John helped establish Mintel International in the US market before moving to Australia to develop and lead the market entry plan for Asia. John then spent 10 years leading the Asia Region launching new offices, new products and building great teams in Sydney, Tokyo and Shanghai.

With a passion for enjoying life, John has always thrived on new challenges. Before co-founding Watch Me Think, he could be found driving around Australia in a Winnebago with his wife Paula and their 3 small children.

Alistair Vince, Chief Tinkerer

Vince has worked within the sales, marketing & product development side of the research industry in London and Sydney (with John) for the past 14 years. Labelled slightly OCD by colleagues, Vince likes solving problems, thinking differently, organizing and getting stuff done.

Because of this, his favourite scene in a film was from Apollo 13 when the technician comes into the room and says ‘We’ve got to find a way to make this, fit into the hole for this, using nothing but that’... his dream challenge!

In another world Vince would run a cheese shop that doubles as a photography studio for 3 days a week, with the rest of his time spent watching rugby and cricket... whilst writing screenplays.

Then, with promises of fast go-karts, the finest scotch eggs, and a casual dress code, they roped in:

Ste Drayton, Digitally-do Thinker

7 years of copywriting, 4 years of agroforestry, and 1 year of studying teak trees - and drinking lots of lao-lao - in the remote upland rice fields of northern Laos.

All before he put in near 14 years service at WWF's global headquarters in Switzerland. There he co-created and project managed a large number of internationally facing digital products, tools and campaigns, with the not inconsiderable help of a formidable and hugely talented set of colleagues, freelancers and agency staff.

He thoroughly enjoys being given problems, finding solutions, and persuading Gordian knots that they shouldn't get too wound up about it all; to relax a little and just let loose.

Our Business Philosophy

This going to sound like a right-load of hot air.

But we aim to:

  • Be Transparent
  • Be Fair
  • Be Honest
  • Have fun (if we are being honest :-)

For sure we don’t expect anyone to believe a word of it right here, right now. Why would you?

But if you ever try us out, we'd love to know if you think we live up to that philosophy.

John, our Chief Thinker, explains in just over a minute what we do...
